Sailing Under Tower Bridge: A Luxury Cruise Experience on Star Pride (2026)

I recently had the opportunity to sail under Tower Bridge on a luxury cruise ship, the Star Pride. It was a unique experience, and I was impressed by the ship's elegance and the exceptional service provided. Here's my take on what makes this cruise so special and why you should consider booking it.

A Unique Embarkation Experience

Boarding at Tower Pier was a far cry from the typical cruise embarkation ports. Most ships are too large to reach these parts of the River Thames, and it felt special to be one of the first passengers to try out this new route. The nearby London Bridge station, accessible via rail and Tube, makes it ideal for Londoners and those living in the home counties.

The Ship's Interior and Comfort

My cabin was a haven of comfort and nautical charm. With blonde wood, cream walls, and blue and white curtains, it felt fresh and spacious at 277 square feet. The queen-sized bed, separated from the lounge area by a Juliette balcony, provided a home-from-home experience. The walk-in wardrobe and his-and-her sinks were a nice touch, and I quickly became accustomed to the luxury of free room service.

Onboard Amenities and Dining

The onboard spa, included in the price, offered a peaceful retreat with heated beds, a steam room, and a sauna. The main dining room, the Amphora Restaurant, provided flexibility with its all-you-can-eat buffet-style dining between 7 and 9 pm. My favorite restaurant, Basil and Bamboo, offered a new pan-Asian and Mediterranean experience with a reservation-only policy. The tuna tartare and black cod were a must-try.

Entertainment and Evening Activities

Evenings were filled with entertainment, from tribute bands to an ABBA night. The crew talent show on the final night was a highlight, with crew members showcasing their skills in sketches, guitar, and dance. The onboard Compass Rose bar, with its plush sofas and entertainment by a saxophonist, provided a perfect setting for pre-dinner drinks and cocktails.

A Cruise for All Ages

Unlike larger cruise ships, Star Pride offered a relaxed atmosphere without the rush for waterslides or stage shows. The Yacht Club coffee lounge became my favorite spot for a flat white and board games. The ship's amenities and dining options cater to all ages, making it an ideal choice for families, couples, and solo travelers.

A Cruise for Londoners

The three-night "Belgium: A Sweet Getaway" cruise is a perfect choice for Londoners and those living in the home counties. With nearby London Bridge station and the unique experience of sailing under Tower Bridge, it offers a convenient and memorable getaway. The cruise starts from £1,198 per person and departs on 7 and 19 May 2027.

In my opinion, Star Pride's combination of luxury, comfort, and unique experiences makes it a top choice for a cruise. The ship's attention to detail, from the fresh interiors to the exceptional dining options, ensures a memorable journey. If you're looking for a cruise that offers a blend of relaxation, exploration, and a touch of London's charm, Star Pride is definitely worth considering.
